Practical Tactics in Managing eDiscovery Projects
12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Location: Taft Center on the first floor of the Regions Building
Link: Directions and Parking
Managing eDiscovery efficiently requires more than technical knowledge. It demands practical judgment, strategic planning, and disciplined project management. This program will provide actionable tactics for overseeing eDiscovery in complex litigation, from early case assessment and vendor coordination to cost control, workflow design, and defensible decision‑making. Drawing on nearly three decades of experience on both the law firm and service‑provider sides, Jim Norman will share real‑world insights and best practices to help legal teams manage risk, improve efficiency, and maintain control throughout the discovery lifecycle.
Speaker: Jim Norman, Proteus
Jim Norman has spent almost 28 years in the legal industry, with the bulk of his career focused on eDiscovery and complex litigation support. Earlier in his career, Jim built from scratch and led an in-house eDiscovery and document review department inside an AmLaw 100 firm — turning what is typically a cost center into a profitable, full-service operation that supported some of the firm's most demanding matters. That experience gave him a working command of every layer of the discovery lifecycle, from collection and processing through review strategy, project management, and trial preparation.
Jim went on to found QDiscovery, where he scaled a successful eDiscovery services company from the ground up. As Vice President of Business Development at Proteus Discovery Group, he draws on that combined law-firm and provider-side perspective to help clients navigate MDLs, class actions, regulatory investigations, and other high-stakes matters with the responsiveness and partnership that mid-market litigants rarely get from larger vendors.
A casual lunch will be provided featuring pizza, salad, a sweet treat, and a variety of refreshing beverages.
