As a paralegal, it is essential to equip yourself with tools necessary to succeed in the legal field. Do you possess the critical skills required to be competitive in the market or most in-demand industries? How often do you wonder if your current work environment best suits your career and/or personality? Are you contemplating transitioning into a non-traditional paralegal position? What professional development goals have you placed on your calendar for this year? Have you considered learning a different area of law, if so great! If not, join us for our April Membership Meeting to review the skills that will assist you with moving your career to the next level.

LaShonda R. Dillard was elected the NFPA Region III Director at the 2012 NFPA Convention.  She has been a litigation paralegal for over nine years, but has spent her entire career in the legal field. Her experience includes assisting with antitrust compliance initiatives, intellectual property matters, patent litigation and copyright infringement matters.  Prior to becoming a paralegal, Ms. Dillard was employed as both a District and Circuit Court Clerk.

Ms. Dillard received her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Michigan.  She earned an Associate Degree in Paralegal Technology from Mott Community College in Flint, Michigan.

Prior to serving on the NFPA Board of Directors, Ms. Dillard served on the Board of Directors for the Georgia Association of Paralegals (“GAP”) for seven years. She served as the National Federation of Paralegals Association (“NFPA”) Primary and Secondary. In addition, she was her local association’s Speaker’s Coordinator. Ms. Dillard was responsible for obtaining speakers for various events hosted by GAP.  During her service on the GAP Board, she chaired several committees, which included Continued Legal Education (“CLE”) seminars, and the 2012 Region III Meeting. This meeting brought NFPA Delegates from Florida, Indiana, South Carolina, Tennessee and Kentucky.

Most recently, Ms. Dillard was appointed to the Clayton County Library Board of Trustees by the Clayton County Board of Commissioners for a three year term.  Ms. Dillard attributes this board appointment to the hard work and dedication exhibited to complete the Clayton County Grassroots Leadership Institute Program (“GRLI”).  GRLI is a community based leadership program devoted to identifying, training, and nurturing future leaders.

The skills Ms. Dillard cultivated during the thirteen-week leadership program and her experience on the GAP Board have thoroughly prepared her to effectively lead and serve as the NFPA Region III Director.
