Topic: IPA's Relationship with NFPA - the Past, Present and Future
Your IPA Membership comes with a dual membership with the National Federation of Paralegal Associations (“NFPA”). Over recent years, for a variety of reasons, multiple local associations have elected to terminate their relationship with NFPA. At our March Monthly Meeting, IPA’s Primary Delegate to NFPA, Lottie Wathen, IRP, will speak on IPA’s history with NFPA and the current situation as IPA takes on the difficult task of evaluating where we go from here. This event will be presented in a town hall forum, giving all members in attendance an opportunity to ask questions and share opinions on this very important task.
Lottie Wathen, an Indiana Registered Paralegal, has been employed as a paralegal for more than 30 years, primarily in civil litigation. Lottie also has experience in family law, personal injury, insurance defense, bankruptcy, probate and estate planning. She is currently employed by Barnes & Thornburg as a litigation paralegal.
Since 2013, Lottie has been a contributing writer for multiple legal publications. Her articles have been published in “Know – The Magazine for Paralegals” the Institute for Paralegal Education’s newsletter, “Paralegal Today” the IPA newsletter, newsletters for local bar associations and more. In addition to her duties as IPA’s Primary Delegate to the NFPA, Lottie currently serves as the Chair of the Indiana State Bar Association’s Affiliate Membership Committee, is a member of the Indianapolis Bar Association’s Paralegal Committee, and is an advisory board member of Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis’ Paralegal Program.
